Breaking Stereotypes, Building Bridges

Join us on Saturday November 2, 2019, 1-4 pm for an afternoon of empowering discussion.

Parsippany Public Library, 449 Halsey Road, Parsippany, NJ

At some time, most of us have jumped to conclusions about someone based on our views of their race, religion, nationality, or appearance.

Our views may come from common stereotypes we learned growing up and act as barriers to connecting with others who are different in some way.

This free workshop will present a panel of individuals from groups that are often stereotyped to help us recognize and re-think views that cause division and conflict.

Panelists will address their personal experiences encountering biases towards race, religion, disability, gender, sexual orientation, and body size.

They will discuss ways in which they have been stereotyped, how the stereotypes are far from the truth of who they are, and how the stereotypes have created challenges for them. There will be a Q&A period.

After the panel, we are very fortunate to have an expert keynote speaker joining us from NYC. Dr. Debbie Almontaser is a highly-regarded educator and authority on cross-cultural understanding.

Dr. Almontaser will discuss stereotypes and show us how to more easily communicate with, appreciate, and respect people with backgrounds different to our own.

Whatever your background, please come join the discussion and make some new friends!

Free refreshments will be served!!
